Why one session will not fix a tendon.

A tendon problem is a loading problem. The tendon has been loaded faster than it could adapt, its structure has changed, and the calf has lost some of its strength. That built up over weeks or months of running, jumping or standing. One massage eases the area for a day. Resolving it means loading the tendon correctly, in stages, over a course, and rest alone only deconditions it further.

If you want a short term treatment, we are not your clinic. If you want the tendon to hold, read on.

THE PROGRAMME

The Achilles Tendon Programme.

Your assessment, your plan, and a staged course over eight to twelve weeks with the same practitioner. We assess how the tendon and calf load, release the tissue and the calf restriction, and rebuild with a progressive loading plan so the tendon can take the load again. The hands-on work settles the tissue; the loading is what changes the tendon.

Assessment.

We assess how the tendon and calf are loading, and how the pattern built up over your training.

Tension Release.

Hands-on soft tissue work on the calf and the restriction driving the tendon overload.

Strength Rebuild.

A progressive tendon loading plan that rebuilds capacity so the tendon can take the load again.

Reviews

What our clients say.

Verified reviews from Google, Fresha and Treatwell.

"I've had sports massage from probably eight different therapists over ten years of running. Alexander is in a different category. He explained what was actually happening in my IT band before touching it, which no one has ever done. Three sessions and the knee issue I'd had for two years is gone. I don't say that lightly."

Sarah M.

"Chronic upper back tension from desk work. I'd tried everything, osteopathy, physio, regular massage. Nothing stuck for more than a week. Alexander found a restriction in my thoracic spine that nobody had identified before and worked on it systematically across four sessions. Six months later and it hasn't come back."

James T.

"Booked the clinical assessment because I'd been told different things by three different physios and had no idea who was right. Alexander's assessment was the most thorough I've had. The written report explained my shoulder issue in a way I actually understood. The treatment plan was logical, not generic. Worth every penny just for the clarity."

A CASE FROM THE CLINIC

Hector, a runner and rugby player, came in with a left ankle still reactive seven months after a sprain, with reduced ankle bend and a weaker, less stable calf on that side. Reading the imaging properly revealed it was a combined injury across both sides of the joint, which had been under-called. We treated it as a combined ankle, restoring the bend on both sides, then rebuilt with balance and proprioception, arch and inner ankle strengthening, and calf capacity so the Achilles, which is intact, stays that way. Significant results from The Cornerstone course, with Hector now on maintenance to hold the gains across his running and rugby.

What is Achilles tendinopathy?

Achilles tendinopathy is a common overuse injury affecting the tendon that connects your calf muscles to your heel bone. It typically presents as pain, stiffness, and thickening of the tendon, particularly in the morning or after activity.

Whether you're a runner dealing with training load issues or someone experiencing heel pain with walking, our Kings Cross clinic provides evidence-based assessment and treatment for Achilles tendon pain.

Common symptoms

  • ✓Morning stiffness in the tendon
  • ✓Pain at the start of activity that eases then returns
  • ✓Tenderness and thickening a few centimetres above the heel or at the heel
  • ✓Pain on stairs or hills

When Achilles pain needs a doctor.

Not all heel or tendon pain is tendinopathy, and a sudden pop with weakness can be a rupture that needs urgent care. We screen at your assessment and refer you on if your case needs it.
