What soft tissue therapy actually is.
Soft tissue therapy is the clinical end of hands-on treatment. It covers muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia, and it is built around finding out why a problem is there before treating it. Sports massage, deep tissue work, myofascial release, cupping and assisted stretching are all techniques inside it. None of them is the thing itself.
The difference you will notice is the order of events. A massage appointment starts with the area that hurts. A soft tissue therapy appointment starts with an assessment of how you move and load, because the tissue that hurts is often not the tissue that caused it. A shoulder that flares every working week is rarely a shoulder problem.
It is also a course, not a visit. One session can settle symptoms. Changing the pattern that produced them takes a plan, worked through in order, with the same practitioner.
THE ACHILLES METHOD
Assess, release, rebuild.
Every session runs the same three steps, in the same order. What changes between clients is what the assessment finds and which techniques answer it.
Assessment.
We find what is driving the problem: which structures are restricted, which are overworking, and how the pattern built up.
Tension Release.
Hands-on soft tissue work on the tissue holding the pattern in place, using whichever techniques the assessment points to.
Strength Rebuild.
A loading plan that retrains the tissue so the pattern does not return, with exercises you do between visits.
The techniques inside it.
You do not book a technique. You book an assessment, and the assessment decides which of these your session uses, and in what order across your course.
Sports massage
Load-informed work for training and desk-driven tension, chosen when the tissue needs depth and circulation.

BOOK IT FOR
- ✓Pain that has lasted more than a few weeks, or keeps coming back
- ✓An injury that settled with rest and returned with load
- ✓Restriction that stretching has not changed
- ✓Training you have had to drop, or a desk week your shoulders pay for
- ✓A diagnosis from elsewhere, and no plan to go with it
NOT FOR
- ×An hour of relaxation, with no assessment and no plan
- ×A single session to make today feel better and nothing beyond it
- ×Anything that needs imaging, medication or a surgical opinion first
If a condition needs imaging, medication or a surgical opinion, we screen for it at your assessment and refer you on.
Who treats you.
Every session at Achilles is delivered by Alexander Khang, an ISRM Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapist. ISRM Level 5 is a clinical qualification in assessment, hands-on treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissue, and it is the reason every course here opens with an assessment rather than a treatment.
You see the same practitioner at every visit. Nothing gets handed on, and nothing gets re-explained. Across 907 appointments and 710 clients, that has been the part people mention most.
Soft tissue therapy and physiotherapy overlap, and people reasonably ask which they need. We have written the honest comparison, including when a physiotherapist is the better call.

Reviews
What our clients say.
Verified reviews from Google, Fresha and Treatwell.
"I've had sports massage from probably eight different therapists over ten years of running. Alexander is in a different category. He explained what was actually happening in my IT band before touching it, which no one has ever done. Three sessions and the knee issue I'd had for two years is gone. I don't say that lightly."
Sarah M.
"Chronic upper back tension from desk work. I'd tried everything, osteopathy, physio, regular massage. Nothing stuck for more than a week. Alexander found a restriction in my thoracic spine that nobody had identified before and worked on it systematically across four sessions. Six months later and it hasn't come back."
James T.
"Booked the clinical assessment because I'd been told different things by three different physios and had no idea who was right. Alexander's assessment was the most thorough I've had. The written report explained my shoulder issue in a way I actually understood. The treatment plan was logical, not generic. Worth every penny just for the clarity."
